PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WMBB) — Panama City Beach remains a hot spot for Spring Break vacations.

Local law enforcement officials say their goal is to ensure safety. Here are some of the rules that will be in place this year.

As of January 1, 2024, a ‘Move Over’ law is in effect and all drivers should be aware of it to avoid getting a ticket. It’s required for drivers to move over a lane when law enforcement or emergency vehicles are on the shoulder. If you can’t move over a lane, you must reduce your speed to 20 miles per hour than the posted speed limit.

As of March 1, the following ordinances still apply:

  • The consumption and possession of alcohol are not allowed on the beach during March

  • Alcohol sales are not permitted after 2 am to until 7 am

  • Loitering in parking lots or the shoulder of the roadway is strictly prohibited

  • The consumption of alcohol in parking lots and vehicles is not allowed

  • Riding on the exterior, and window sill, and standing through the sunroof is strictly prohibited

  • Illegal drugs are prohibited

  • Loud music heard more than 25 feet away is illegal

  • 21 and older to possess or drink alcohol

  • Fighting is strictly prohibited

  • No metal shovels and digging holes deeper than two feet is prohibited

The violations of these laws will result in:

  • An arrest and one night night in County Jail

  • A criminal record that will follow you beyond Spring Break

  • Up to a $500 fine or imprisonment in the County Jail up to 60 days
